Title: Compostion of

1
Compostion of Earth's Atmosphere
2
Early Atmosphere Mostly Hydrogen Helium
Volcanic Activity CO2, SO2, H2O and N2
3
Composition of the mixture
Nitrogen compounds
Dust
Carbon compounds
Oxygen / Ozone
Water Vapor
4
Nitrogen Compounds NO2 - nitrogen dioxide Has a
role in reducing stratospheric ozone. Comes
from the burning of biomass and fossil fuel
N2O - nitrous oxide Important in the greenhouse
effect. Comes from nitrogen based fertilizers
and biomass burning.
5
Carbon Compounds CO2 - carbon dioxide Comes from
the decay of vegetation, respiration of plants
animals, and the burning of fossil
fuels. Important in the greenhouse effect.
CO - carbon monoxide Comes from incomplete
fossil-fuel combustion biomass burning.
Major pollutant of city air - SMOG..
6
O2 - oxygen Animals Plants use it during
respiration. It is released in the process of
photosynthesis.
7
O3 - ozone Tropospheric ozone is produced as an
artificial byproduct of photochemical smog, and
is hazardous to human health. Stratospheric
ozone is produced naturally and helps to protect
life from the harmful effects of solar
ultraviolet radiation.
8
Water Vapor (H2O) Absorbs heat energy solar
energy. The source of all clouds and
precipitation
9
DUST
  • Dust is much more than just little specks of
dirt. It includes microscopic particles that are
invisible to the naked eye, including pollen,
    spores, and seeds.

Variations in our Atmosphere
Water Vapor Dust varies with location, season
time of day
Carbon dioxide varies with seasons - lowest summer
Ozone varies - higher in summer
