Glacier View Jr. HighAvalanche Wrestling Mission
  • Our goal is to assist our wrestlers in reaching
their optimum levels of performance through
development of a positive attitude, confidence,
team building, and development of interpersonal
skills. By achieving this goal, we will have
trained not only a good wrestler, but a well
    rounded individual.

4
To achieve this goal, ourGV Avalanche Wrestlers
will
  • Take responsibility for their actions, on and off
    the mat
  • Come to practice every day, on time, and prepared
to wrestle with a positive attitude and
    sportsmanship
  • Follow the GV and Puyallup School District
    Athletic Codes
  • Make a commitment to an ideal weight and follow a
plan to remain healthy at that weight
  • Take care of their personal hygiene, including
showering and washing practice clothes after
    workouts
  • Budget their time to ensure their commitment to
the Avalanche Wrestling Program which includes
    school work
  • Act as a member of our team supporting
teammates, and respecting coaches and managers
  • Give their best effort, not only because the
sport requires that we do so, but for the
personal challenge to put forth your best effort
    in all that you do

Matches Schedule
7
Matches and Tournaments
  • All wrestlers must help set up before home
    matches and clean up after.
  • At the conclusion of each match, each athlete
will shake the coaches hand. We may or may not
debrief at that time depending on the match
    circumstances.
  • The team bench is only for our athletes, and
participating athletes are to remain on the
bench. We ask that parents do not come down to
the bench during a match to visit with their
athlete. Please wait until after the match to
    congratulate your athlete.
  • All wrestlers will ride to and from away matches
on the team bus. Parents may check out their
athlete only, by checking them out with the head
coach or designee. Parents are not able to check
    out other athletes.
  • By Puyallup School District Policy, athletes may
not ride home with anyone other than their
parents or on the school bus.

8
Academic Eligibility
  • To be academically eligible to wrestle, athletes
must be passing 5 of 6 classes according to the
    Puyallup School District.
  • Receiving a D or F on a progress report will
place a wrestler on team academic probation and
will mean mandatory attendance at a study hall
during and/or lunch each day until the grade is
raised to a C- or higher.
  • If a wrestler becomes academically ineligible,
they will be on suspension from competition.
However, they must attend practices until they
    can compete again.
  • Athletes must look ahead and plan for large
academic projects or tests. You have made a
commitment as a wrestler, and must balance your
    academics and wrestling.

9
Responsibilities of Sportsmanship
  • The Participant
  • Treats opponents with respect.
  • Plays hard, but plays within the rules.
  • Exercises self-control at all times, setting the
    example for others to follow.
  • Respects officials and accepts their decisions
    without gesture or argument.
  • Wins without boasting, loses without excuses, and
    never quits.
  • Always remembers that it is a privilege to
    represent the school and community.
  • Win with Honor and Lose with Dignity
  • Live up to high standards of sportsmanship
    required of athletes.

10
Responsibilities of Sportsmanship
  • The Coach
  • Treats own participants and opponents with
    respect.
  • Inspires in the athletes a love for the sport and
    the desire to compete fairly.
  • Is the type of person he/she wants the athletes
    to be.
  • Disciplines those on the team who display
    unsportsmanlike behavior.
  • Know he/she is a teacher, and understands the
athletic arena is an extension of the classroom.
  • Respect the judgment of contest officials, abide
by rules of the event and display no behavior
    that could incite fans.
  • Set a good example for participants and fans to
follow, exemplifying the highest moral and
    ethical behavior.

11
Responsibilities of Sportsmanship
  • The Spectator
  • Attempts to understand and be informed of the
    playing rules.
  • Appreciates a good play no matter who makes it.
  • Cooperates with and responds enthusiastically to
    cheerleaders.

applauds positive performance does not heckle,
jeer or distract participants and avoids use of
profane and obnoxious language and behavior.
  • Respects the judgment and strategy of the coach,
and does not criticize participants or coaches
    for loss of a game.
  • Respects the judgment and interpretation of the
    rules by the officials.
  • Respects property of others and authority of
    those who administer the competition.
  • Censures those whose behavior is unbecoming.
  • Realize that a ticket is a privilege to observe a
contest and support out school activities, not a
license to verbally assault others or be
    generally obnoxious.
  • Be a FAN, not a FANATIC!

12
Nutrition
  • Concentrating on wrestling rather than on cutting
weight will make a better wrestler.
  • To grow naturally and increase strength,
wrestlers need the same nutrients as other
teenagers, but need more calories to meet the
    demands of daily training.
  • Fasting causes the body to use muscle proteins
for energy even if fat is available. This limits
    muscle growth and strength development.
  • A proper diet will help wrestlers lose fat weight
without sacrificing muscle tissue or becoming
    dehydrated.
  • Dehydration is a major cause of losses in
    strength and endurance.
  • Losing weight rapidly results in a loss of both
    muscle tissue and water.
  • Losing weight gradually (2-3 lbs/week) is the
best way to lose fat and keep muscle.
  • Proper training includes practicing proper
    nutrition every day.
  • Practicing good nutrition and proper weight
control methods is vital to achieving peak
    physical performance.
  • I have put 8 pages of nutritional information on
the web for you to read if you would like
