Title: Fife Multiagency Leading and Learning Programme:

1
Fife Multiagency Leading and Learning Programme
  • Mentoring Scheme

2
What are Mentors there to do?
  • Facilitate effective learning relationships
  • Be students of their own experience, use
reflection to inform what it is they do and how
    they do it
  • Make sure you dont get too comfortable and fall
asleep and miss your life (challenge, support and
    vision)
  • Help you set learning goals and priorities
  • Assist your personal and career development,
inspire you to reach beyond yourself

3
Mentoring Scheme overview
  • Mentors come from Fife Council, NHS Fife and our
    partners.
  • You will be matched with a Mentor from a
    different organisation to yourself.
  • A half day training event will be held on 23rd
February when Mentors and Mentees will meet
  • Your Mentor has been briefed to undertake the
role for 9 months. Thereafter by mutual
    agreement.

4
Previous Scheme Evaluation
  • 1-1 contact and guidance is very useful. Mentor
is opposite of me and therefore helps me to think
    more
  • Helps with strategic development and gives me
other choices when dealing with situations
  • Opportunity to discuss and compare management
styles, strengths and development areas being
    valuable
  • Not well matched! Limited challenge (no
    direction)

5
Mentorship schemes
  • Competency-based matching
  • The gold standard
  • BUT
  • Expensive external consultant expertise
  • Ideally needs a big pool of mentors so matching
    is most effective

6
Dating agency
  • A valid form of scheme
  • Basic, relevant information collected on both
    Mentors and Mentees
  • Forms posted on intranet / mailing list
  • Mentees approach potential Mentors directly
  • Mentors can accept or reject with reasons given
    to Mentees

7
The Middle Way
  • Mentors complete questionnaire identifying key
    strengths and skills
  • Mentees complete questionnaire picking up on key
    areas from their profiling
  • Programme Managers act as matchmakers, adding in
    contextual and organisational knowledge

8
How it works in practice
  • Its over to you and your Mentor to arrange
    meetings, venue, frequency, mentoring agreement.
If you cant get started let us know!
  • Good mentoring is tough for both parties
  • If its not working, be honest, explore, reflect
and bring to a close. Let us know!
  • If its working well, youll know!
