GP Appraisal skills training day Friday June 9th
2006 Venue Collingwood College Durham
  • This training is suitable for
  • GP trainers wishing to develop basic appraiser
    skills to enable them to carry out more effective
    appraisal of their GPRs, innovative trainees etc.
  • GPs wishing to gain skills to carry out
    appraisals of GP colleagues for their PCT. This
    first day will provide a basis to enable
    participants to carry out 2-3 supervised
    appraisals in the following few months. A second
    day is planned for Friday 13th October, when more
    advanced skills will be covered, and experiences
    from the appraisals carried out can be shared.
  • The course will be run by Dr Di Jelley, Deanery
    appraisal advisor, and Dr Fiona Galloway, Cumbria
    appraiser and GP Tutor, supported by Dr Malcolm
    Thomas.
  • The venue is Collingwood College in
    Durham-directions overleaf.
  • The cost is 150 per delegate-cheques payable to
    North of England Faculty. GP trainers can
    reclaim 75 of this fee from the post graduate
    institute after the training

Durham City is exceptionally well served by all
forms of transport By car 1 From the A1 (M).
Take the A690 turning sign posted Durham.
Continue straight on across the first roundabout,
take the left turn across the bridge. Continue
along the road through four sets of traffic
lights. Collingwood College is the third turning
on the left hand side. 2 From the A167. Take the
turning signposted Durham at the Cock of the
North roundabout. Follow the road towards the
city centre, after approximately 1 mile turn
right into Collingwood College. By Bus The
number 6 bus runs every 15 minutes from Durham
bus station and stops outside the college. By
Train Durham is well served by the rail
network. The journey from the station to the
college is approximately 5 minutes by taxi or the
bus station is very close.

11.30-1.00pm Running the appraisal interview-practising scenarios -small group work DJ and FG
1.00-1.45 pm Lunch
1.45-2.15 pm Review of core issues raised so far-large group
2.15-3.45 pm After the interview-writing up Form 4 and preparing PDP-small groups
3.45-4 pm Tea/coffee
4-4.30 pm Summary of core areas covered-what to do next-feedback on the day-large group
