BREAKDANCE John has been doing a great job with
the boys and girls this term. They have really
enjoyed themselves and have been perfecting their
new moves! The boys also made a big impression
when they gave their first ever performance at
the Petts Wood May Day Fayre. Its great to have
the boys as part of the school and we look
forward to having them in the show.
Welcome to the very first Edition of Emmerson
Extra! We have had a busy time this year at
Emmerson and thought it would be a nice idea for
you to read about what has been going on and also
the achievements of our pupils. On the back page
are some dates for your diary including the date
of the show and also the additional dates for the
Saturday classes. Please don't hesitate to phone
or email me if you have any questions or
queries. Wishing you a lovely summer break!
TAP JAZZ Well done to the girls who took their
tap exams up at the ISTD 2 in June. All the girls
passed with flying colours, achieving an average
mark of 78. Apologies for the confusion with the
hall this term. To make sure this doesnt happen
again Nigel and I have sat down to work out all
the dates for this year and next. These dates
are listed on the back page of this edition of
Extra. I have been assured these will NOT be
subject to change!
BALLET Rebecca and Bronwen Hanson both
entered the London Mabel Ryan ballet competition
in March.  Both girls did extremely well with
Rebecca being awarded a commendation in the
senior and musicality award.   Bronwen also did
amazingly well when she got down to the last 20
of 400 girls, just missing out on a part in Billy
Elliot in the West End! Congratulations to Alice
Huntington for successfully auditioning for the
National Youth Ballet. Alice will be performing
with NYB on the 27th-29th August at The Assembly
Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells and at Sadlers
Wells for their gala performance on the 6th
September. Also, congratulations to Rebecca
George who has been given a scholarship to this
years Cecchetti Student Summer School. Emily
Mcdonald, Eliane Belben, Amy Belben and Alice
Huntington had a great time when they performed
with Celtic Journeys at the Churchill Theatre
earlier in the year. Also well done to the girls
who took their ballet exams on the 28th July they
all worked really hard and did a fantastic job!
MUSICAL THEATRE From next term we will be going
more in depth and starting to study the Trinity
Guildhall Musical Theatre syllabus. The class
will be split into 3 sections. Miss Becky will
take the dance, Miss Samantha will take the drama
and a new teacher will be joining us to take the
singing. The cost of these classes will have to
increase, but in comparison to Stage Coach and
other local dancing schools offering musical
theatre we will still be much cheaper! Miss
Becky and Miss Samantha are on their way to
completing their ATCL teaching qualification in
musical theatre and are looking forward to
introducing it to the children in September.
UNIFORM From September we will be introducing
new T-shirts etc to be worn in the tap, jazz,
musical theatre and breakdance classes. The new
uniform will be compulsory as of January 2010.
We know that this will give the school a strong
identity and hope all the students will like
wearing the new designs which we feel reflect the
future of the school.
PERFORMANCE TEAM In October, the newly formed
senior performance team will be entering the Kent
Dance Challenge competition in Maidstone. If
this is successful we will look to form a junior
team as well. Students will be invited to join
the teams if we feel they are strong enough, both
technically and as performers. Please log on to
and vote for Katherine Giannini, Rachel Lewis and
Alice Huntington who have entered quackers in
the trio section of the competition. The top six
dances that receive the most votes will perform
in the final on the 24th October. I have listed
the website address on the back page of this
edition of Extra GOOD LUCK!
