Golf Green is one of Kolkatas most pristine
neighbourhoods, situated close to the Royal
Calcutta Golf Course, South of Lake Gardens. This
little island of green is the home of over 10,000
educated, cultured, well-to-do Kolkatans
including a large number of celebrated writers,
musicians, sportspersons, actors, filmmakers,
journalists, doctors, businessmen, professionals
and academecians. Actors Soumitra Chatterjee,
Chinmoy Chatterjee, footballers Subroto

Three glorious decades of Golf Green Phase I
Durga Puja

This year Phase I Durga Puja completes 30 years.
Right from the very beginning, the local
residents have been actively involved in their
parar Pujo. In fact, the ambience of our Puja
is such that instead of visiting other Pujas,
many choose to spend the entire day in the
pandal, catching up with friends, strumming
guitars or blasting balloons with airguns.
Anjali, on the three days of Puja, is repeated at
least 5 times to cover the huge attendance. The
cultural programs in the evenings, where
residents as well as renowned artists perform,
are always houseful. Over 2000 residents from 450
flats in Phase I have lunch together in the
pandal on Nabami (Nabami Bhog). Even during
bhasaan, thousands of Golf Greeners walk behind
the truck carrying the idol, in order to bid
adieu to the Goddess. In other words, its a
Puja like no other.

The grand 30th anniversary celebrations
On its 30th year, Golf Green Phase I Durga Puja
is taking up an environment-friendly theme by
creating a pandal made entirely of jute, straw,
bamboo and Hoglaa leaves. The pandal will be
decorated with terracotta art and traditional
Bengali Patachitra. Needless to say, this will be
a huge draw for residents and non-resident
visitors alike. Along with the regular puja
events, there will be cultural programs, games,
quizzes, contests, rides for children, and
various other attractions for the entire family
on all four days of Puja.
