1. What is Personal Development Planning (PDP)?

• A structured and supported process undertaken by
  an individual to reflect upon your own learning,
  performance and /or achievement and to plan for
  your personal educational and career development

1. What is Personal Development Planning (PDP)?

• Essentially it entails constructing a record of
  your personal and academic achievements at the
  start and throughout your Higher Education
  Experience in preparation for your chosen career
  path

2. Core Key Skills

• A Commission chaired by Sir Ron Dearing reported
  on aspects of Higher Education and concluded
  that,
• ".employability skills incorporate traditional
  intellectual skills the new core or key skills
  personal attributes and knowledge about how
  organisations work." (Dearing 1997)

What are the core key skills?

• Educationalists and employers have identified
• competence in the same six core areas
• identified by the DfEE as
• Communication,
• Information Technology,
• Numeracy,
• Working with others,
• Improving your own learning and performance
• Problem solving.

Annex 2 3

• Annex 2 is a skills self assessment audit which
  lists a range of skills in each of the 6 core
  areas which should be completed on entry and will
  give you an idea of how confident you feel about
  your skills. Annex 3 is a summary sheet of this
  audit which you can share with your personal or
  academic tutor.

• This is a personal record and no one PDP will be
  exactly the same as any other. For examples see
  on-line version
• Target setting and Action Planning
• Records of meetings

Getting started and keeping going

• This is perhaps the most difficult since your
  PDP is an ongoing process.
• During induction it is recommended that you make
  a start and there is an on-line guide to help you
  through the first year
• A tool kit is also available to help you with
  your studies
