Early Childhood Education (ZA)
  • The Early Childhood Education major or minor may
    be utilized to complete an elementary
    certification program through option 2 of the
    elementary certificate standards.
  • Completion of an Early Childhood Education major
    must include a minimum of 30 semester credit
    hours.

  • Completion of an Early Childhood Education minor
    must be at least 20 semester credit hours.
  • In order to keep a focus on highly qualified
    elementary teachers, the following core content
    specialty areas must be evident in the program
    reading, language arts, mathematics, integrated
    science, world languages, social studies, and
    fine arts.

Early Childhood Education (ZA)
  • The Early Childhood Education endorsement may be
    added to a secondary certificate only in
    combination with a special education endorsement
    to allow for employment in an early childhood
    developmentally delayed position.
  • To add an Early Childhood Education endorsement
    to an existing elementary certificate, the
    program must be at least 26 semester credit hours
    with 14 of those semester credit hours addressing
    learning related to children, birth through age 8.

Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC)
  • The ZA test development process has started
  • Additional volunteers are needed for test
    development
  • Next anticipated MTTC meeting is May 2009
  • Submit a volunteer form

  • Use previously submitted materials or
  • Submit revised materials

  • The complete application form is 9 pages long and
    is divided into 9 sections and 5 attachments
  • This is the documentation format we expect to see
    for all the programs.
  • Program application due by November 1, 2010

Review Application Process
  • Program application and documentation arrives
    electronically at the Office of Professional
    Preparation Services (OPPS)
  • Consultant reviews the application to assure all
    elements are present
  • Consultant sends acknowledgement of receiving
    program materials and notifies OPPS staff to send
    invoice
  • Remittance received at OPPS by appropriate
    deadline
  • Program documentation is recorded and scheduled
    for the review conference

  • All fees must be paid by December 1, 2010, for
    March 2011 review
  • Invoice is sent to the college dean
