Classification Cross-mapping

• Cross-maps created in accordance with UK National
  Standards
• Accuracy of the cross-map is of prime importance
• Synonyms carry the same cross-map as the concept
  preferred term to which they are attached
• Cross-maps are constructed to ICD-10 4th
  character only

ICD-10

• ICD-10 is an approved and mandated standard
• for NHS use
• ICD-10 Reprinted 2000 edition currently used
• Cross-maps to ICD-10 were updated to reflect
• this version across NHS in 2005

OPCS-4

• OPCS-4 is also an approved and mandated
• Standard for NHS use
• OPCS-4.4 is the current version in use
• Cross-maps from the terminologies to OPCS-4 were
• updated to reflect this version across NHS in
• April 2007

OPCS-4 Annual Review and Revision Cycle

• First major revision of OPCS-4 (4.3) in 15 years
• implemented in NHS from April 2006
• OPCS-4.4 implemented from April 2007 as a
• consequence of annual review cycle
• OPCS-4 annual review does not necessarily
• involve an annual revision
