Selecting a Project Sample

• Insure that the sample is representative- the
  projects chosen should reflect the full range of
  projects executed at your business unit or
  company. Biasing the project sample to reflect a
  certain picture is self deception.
• Once the range of projects is chosen, make sure
  the sample is randomly selected
• Eliminate projects with unreliable or incomplete
  data.
• Make sure to communicate the purpose of the
  exercise clearly to the project managers of your
  chosen project.
• They are the chosen few not the damned.
• Benchmarking is a learning experience not a
  punitive exercise.
• Encourage them to speak not to seek ways to plead
  the fifth.
