Sample Sample Affixation The final sample has
been the result of 902 interviews to the
universe above defined. The sample affixation
established has been the following
Points of the sample In each town, object of
study, the interviews to be carried out have been
distributed in the larger possible number of
districts, in order to ensure a good dispersion
of the samples (with a minimum of 10 interviews
in each district).
13
3. METHODOLOGY
Error of the sample The corresponding error of
the sample calculated for a confidence level of
95,45 (2?) and supposing the maximum statistical
indetermination (pq50), according to the
formula corresponding to samples taken out from
infinite universes p . q ? 2
----------- n is the following

() The differential (2002 / 2003 / 2004 / 2005
regarding 2000-2001 exists because in the current
questionnaire, the interviewed was not obliged to
choose between the 2 options. The interviewed has
more freedom when he/she can present the option
indifferent. Anyway, if we share out this
differential in a proportional way between the 2
options, the result is homogeneous to the
previous years.

5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
88
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • INTRODUCTION TO THE USE OF BEAUTY PROFESSIONAL
    SERVICES
  • The use of beauty treatments shows a stable
    tendency in the last 4 years (2003 34 - 2004
    38 - 2005 36 - 2006 34) after the
significant growth obtained in this three-year
period with regard to 2002 (22)
  • The segments of the sample that present a higher
    use introduction are the following
  • Sex Women (48)
  • Age 21-30 years old (37)
  • City Bilbao (44)
  • The professional hairdressing services have been
demanded for the totality of the population
    (100).

89
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • PROFFESIONAL HAIRDRESSING
  • AVERAGE COST, FREQUENCY AND FUTURE PERCEPTION
  • The average cost in every hairdressing service
has increased in 1.5 with regard to the last
year. This fact supposes an average of 28.9 (5
    more than in 2005)
  • This growth is more noticeable between women
    (7).
  • The frequency of attendance to hairdressing
centers is the same with regard to 2005 (41 of
the users of professional hairdressing services
go at least once per month)
  • Then, the annual average reaches 347 per year,
which means a growth of 5 regarding the last
year. This value is the highest one since this
    information is recollected (2002)
  • The perspectives for this year 2005 still are
optimistic, since although the 78 of the
analyzed population states that they will spend
the same than the last year, a 14 declares that
much or a little bit more in front of the 5 that
says that they will spend less.

90
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • PROFESSIONAL HAIRDRESSING (cont.)
  • DEMANDED SERVICES
  • In the same way that in previous questionnaire,
the most demanded services are haircut (99),
wash hair (88) and Hairstyle (74).
  • It is worth mentioning that , although results
logical, that we can see higher percentages
    between women than between men.
  • Other services demanded, although those are
almost exclusively of the feminine segment, are
hair dye (36) and streaks (26).
  • KIND OF ESTABLISHMENT
  • We can notice a gradual descent in the preference
of the traditional hairdressing, in aid of the
hairdressing salon / beauty center (61 vs 34)
  • However, in some segments of the sample, the
traditional hairdressing option overcomes the 70
of the cases in Barcelona (71) and Valencia
(70), and between men (71 logically when
demanding aesthetics and beauty services to a
    lesser extent than women)

91
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • BEAUTY TREATMENTS
  • AVERAGE COST AND FUTURE PERCEPTION
  • The average cost per visit in beauty treatments
has been of 36.1, which supposes a significant
growth of the 22 regarding 2005. Taken into
account the times that people go to the
aesthetics center and the mentioned average cost,
an annual cost of 433 is obtained.
  • In the same way than in hairdressing, the
perspectives for this year are optimistic (they
will spend Much A little bit more 22 Much
A little bit less 5 The same 74).
  • DEMANDED SERVICES
  • The treatment more demanded in the aesthetics
centers it is still the depilation (73). Then
appear the facial treatments (52) and the
    manicure / pedicure (37).
  • Other demanded treatments are tanning beds
    (25) massages (18)
  • All of them present similar values to the ones
    of the previous year.

92
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • BEAUTY TREATMENTS (cont.)
  • HOW OFTEN PEOPLE GO TO THE AESTHETICS CENTER
  • The 47 of the users of aesthetics centers, goes
at least once per month (once per week 3 every
    15 days 6 once per month 38).
  • This number is lightly lower than the one
recollected in 2005 (49 at least once per
    month).
  • KIND OF ESTABLISHMENT
  • The usual establishments of aesthetics services
are the beauty and hairdressing centers (in the
42 of the cases). To a lesser extent, the
personal beauticians appear (31), who, for first
time overcome the beauty centers without
    hairdressing (23).
  • STARTING AGE FOR AESTHETICS TREATMENTS
  • As in the previous years, the average starting
age in aesthetics treatments is at 22 / 23 years
old. Specifically, the 46 before of the age of
    20 years old a 30 between 20 / 25 years old,
the 11 between 26 and 30 years old and the 13
remaining after the age of 30.

93
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • PURCHASE OF PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY PRODUCTS
  • PRODUCTS BOUGHT
  • The products that people buy in the aesthetics
and beauty centers still are Shampoos (66 of the
interviewers that sometime have bought some
product), face packs (35) and Creams (33).
  • The rest of the products do not present results
as high as the three previous categories hair
    gel / hairspray (23), hair treatments (22),
    conditioner (19).
  • KIND OF ESTABLISHMENT
  • Logically, those who go to the hairdressing salon
use to buy products in this kind of
establishment, to a greater extent than the rest
of those who were not analyzed. The same happens
with those who go to an aesthetics and beauty
    center.
  • INTEREST FOR A SPECIFIC SPACE FOR THE SALE OF
    PRODUCTS IN BEAUTY CENTERS
  • The 49 of the current buyers of products declare
that are interested in a specific space for the
sell of products in beauty centers. This
information is significantly lower to the one
    recollected in 2005 (62).

94
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • TANNING BEDS
  • The 16 of the analyzed population has sometime
used tanning beds during the last year (17
    recollected in 2005).
  • The segments of the sample that recollect higher
percentages are the following women (19), of
20-30 years old (25), people resident in the
cities of Zaragoza (24), A Coruña (21) and
    Bilbao (19).
  • In most of the cases people use the tanning bed
in specific moments (87), mainly in spring (39)
although also in winter (18) an for weddings
    (22).
  • The favourite center is the tan center (46),
followed by the beauty salons (32), that
    overcome the aesthetics centers (14).

95
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • NAILS
  • The 16 of the consulted sample have had some
nails treatment in some professional center
during the last year. This value is 2 points
lower than the one achieved in 2005.
  • The segments with higher introduction are women
(22), people older than 50 years old (20) and
those living in Madrid (21) and A Coruña (26).
  • The establishment where people use to go is both
the hairdressing (49) and the aesthetics centers
(38). The specific establishments of nails are
    still a minority (9).

96
5. SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS
  • GYMNASIUM
  • The 27 of the consulted sample use to go to the
gym. Those who go more often are the younger
people (31), men (29) and those living in
Barcelona (31). On the contrary, those who do
not go very often are the older ones (23) and
people resident resident in Zaragoza (13).
  • The 86 of the people going to the gym say that
they go at least with a weekly regular
    recurrence a 16 does exercises daily and a 58
does it 3 times per week.
  • The activities that they use to practise are
varied, but basically, activities in group
    (aerobic) (45), cardiovascular (39), water
areas (37) and fitness (36). Men use to
practise more fitness (58) and women more
