COMMUNITY ACTION COLLABORATIVE

• Purpose Collection of committed community
  stakeholders coming together to strategically
  plan how to effectively change conditions in
  their community. They will be instructed on the
  processes, best practices, and avenues of action
  which will maximize their ability to transform
  their neighborhoods.
• Youth possess the desire to change the conditions
  in their environments, but they are unaware of
  the necessary steps. Youth will receive training
  on the development of a strategic action plan
  designed to serve as a road map to execute their
  community enhancement goals.
• Applied Learning Project Youth will complete two
  community projects to gain experience in Civic
  Engagement.
• Spring Project Food Drive (Supporting
  Identified Local Pantry)
• Winter Project Coat Drive (Supporting
  Identified Local Homeless Shelter)
• Note Groups will convene during their Spring,
  Summer, and Winter Breaks to discuss
• project outcomes and attend workshop sessions.

THE PROCESS

• Recruited organization must identify a team of 5
  to 10 youth and an adult group
• leader to register for the sessions. Each group
  will receive a confirmation letter
• along with a registration packet. On the day of
  the event (January 24, 2009),
• organizations will receive their group and room
  assignments.
• PROGRAM METHOD
• Established community organizers will lead small
  group instruction workshops to educate and
  empower youth to begin taking action to change
  their environments
• Participants will be tasked with applied learning
  projects to demonstrate their retention of the
  material (Food and Clothing Drive) throughout the
  year
• Activities and learning sessions will be
  conducted to celebrate the successes achieved by
  the groups and to continue to provide resources
  and insight supporting their efforts
• Participants will receive a resource guide to
  compliment the instructional sessions
• Ongoing technical support will be provided to
  each participating group
