  • Make sure that your child is well rested on
    school days and especially the day of a test
  • Give your child a well rounded diet.
  • Talk to your child about the upcoming
    standardized tests
  • Keep a positive attitude
  • Give plenty of hugs

Expect Hard Work
  • 1. Demonstrate your own commitment to high
    standards
  • 2. Encourage your child to listen to ALL
    instructions and follow test directions carefully
  • 3. Remind your child that it is OK to ask
    questions if the instructions dont seem clear
  • 4. Be positive and express confidence that your
    child will be able to handle the test well

The Night Before the Test
  • Help your child get to bed on time
  • Help children resolve immediate arguments before
    going to bed
  • Keep your routine as normal as possible
  • Mention the test to show youre interested but
    dont dwell on it
  • Plan ahead to avoid conflicts the morning of the
    test

The Morning of Test Day
  • Get up early enough to avoid rushing
  • Have your child eat a good breakfast, but not a
    heavy one
  • Have your child dress in something comfortable
  • Be positive about the test

After the Test
  • Talk to your child about his or her feelings
    about the test
  • Discuss what was easy and what was hard
  • Discuss what changes your child would make if he
    or she were to retake the test
  • Explain that performance on the test is not a
    condition for you to love your child

  • Make sure your child attends school regularly
  • Provide a quiet, comfortable place for studying
    at home
  • Don't judge your child on the basis of a single
    test score
  • Don't be too anxious about your child's test

What Are Gateway Years?
  • 3rd, 5th, 8th Grades
  • In 8th grade, students must pass both reading and
    math.

CRCT Performance Levels
  • There are 3 levels of performance on the CRCT.
  • Level 1 Does not meet standards
  • Level 2 Meets Standards
  • Level 3 Exceeds Standards

Passing the CRCT
  • Students must have a score of 800 or above to
    pass the CRCT.
  • Eight Grade students who do not pass may attend
    Summer School

Summer School
  • Summer School will be held from June 4 through
    June 26
  • Students will receive instruction from 800am
    until 1200 noon
  • Instruction will be on reading/language arts
    skills and/or math skills
  • Transportation will be provided from designated
    bus stops.

Re-taking CRCT Test
  • Parents will be notified regarding the test
    results
  • Students who do not pass will repeat the grade
    they were in
  • There is an appeal process

8th Graders Who Dont Pass
  • 8th grade students who score in Performance Level
    1 on the Reading or Math tests will need to
    retake that test in June
  • 8th grade students who dont take the test will
    need to take the Reading and Math tests in June
  • The summer retest will be June 25, 26 27
