Taking Notes

• Use direct quotations only for memorably phrased
  ideas.
• Use subject headings to organize notes.
• Place quotation marks carefully.
• Name source when leading into quotation.
• Use MLA style.
• Final paper should contain many of your own
  ideas.
• Review Guidelines for Handling Source Material
  (100-101).
