• IEC TC 18 Electrical installations of ships and
  mobile and fixed offshore units
• IEC TC18 was established i 1935.
• Chairman Mr. Brian Sharman, Lloyds Register, UK
• Secretariat Mr. Ragnar Gjørven, NEK, Norway
• The standards published by TC 18, as well as
  national regulations for ships, have been widely
  used in the offshore industry
• In 1986 it was decided to prepare a stand alone
  standard for the offshore industry

• History and members
• The MT (Maintenance team) was established in 1986
  as Working Group 18 and consists of members from
  the following countries
• Brazil
• Denmark
• England
• France
• Italy
• Norway
• USA
• The convenor is Mr. Geir Bull-Njaa, Norsk Hydro,
  Norway

• Tasks of MT 18
• To co-ordinate and to carry out those measures
  required to draft an IEC Publication regarding
  electrical installations of mobile and fixed
  offshore units taking IEC Publication 92 as a
  basis.
• To take into account the work of IMO in this
  field.
• To select the IEC technical committees and
  subcommittees, the Working Groups of TC 18 and
  other bodies of which work has to be taken into
  account.
• To maintain the publications of the IEC 61892
  series on completion of the specific parts
  following the Maintenance Cycle for the
  respective parts.

• The following parts are under preparation
• Part 2 System design
• The publication is at the FDIS stage (Final Draft
  International Standard). It is expected to be
  issued 1st quarter 2005
• Part 4 Cables
• The publication is at the NP stage (New Work). It
  is expected to be issued 1st quarter 2006
• Maintenance of part 3, 6 and 7 starts shortly
