Title: Identification of user needs and bottlenecks on transport modelling in the New Member States

1
Identification of user needs and bottlenecks on
transport modelling in the New Member States
  • Dr. Algirdas akalys, (VGTU Team Leader)
  • Prof. Adolfas Baublys
  • Dr. Andrius Jaremskis
  • Siiri Baciauskiene

2
  • We, VGTU Transport Research Institute have sent
questionnaire on identification of user needs and
bottlenecks on transport modelling to 23
transport and traffic model users and developers
    (municipalities, national governmental
institutions, main transport companies, as well
as researchers) in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
  • At present we have 13 received filled in
questionnaires back. (5 from Estonia and 8 from
    Lithuania)
  • Today are able to present you only very
    preliminary results of our investigation

Respondents (13)
  • Tallinn Technical University
  • Tallinn Municipality
  • Union of Estonia Automobile Enterprises
  • Tallinn Colleague of Engineering
  • Engineering Bureau Stratum

Question 1. Models used
  • Forecasts of future demand for transport (2
    answers)
  • Improvements of existing infrastructure and
construction of new infrastructure projects (2
    answers)
  • Economic model (2 answers)
  • Direct demand network model (2 answers)
  • Evaluation of corridors
  • The visual-digital ship simulator
  • The models of impacts on route choice,
  • Macroscopicp, mezoscopic and microscopic model of
    traffic flows
  • Network model (earlier)
  • Emission models (pollution and traffic noise)
  • Model of traffic distribution in urban streets
    network
  • Possible use or optimisation of more restrictive
laws and regulations, such as restrictions of
heavy goods transport in urban areas, parking
    policies, etc.
  • Better utilisation of existing transport
infrastructure e.g. by improved timetables of
    passenger transport,
  • TRIPS - used long time ago. No data's and
qualified personal today. This is too
    sophisticated program for users
  • VIPS (an old version) - used long time ago. No
    data's and qualified personal today
  • Direct demand network model

  • We very hope that today during two brain
storming sessions (chaired by Jan Persson
(Blekinge, Sweden) and Irina Yatskiv (Riga,
Latvia) we will receive the useful supplementary
information about user needs, models used, as
well as bottlenecks on transport modelling in
    Baltic States Area.
  • I wish you the productive results of your work.
