Trainspotting and census
  • Census is like a train network, that has a
    timetable which relies on everything happening in
    sequence.
  • Like the train network, computers break down and
    need upgrades.
  • Like trains, its best to test the census before
    you try to run it for real.
  • Both need more than just a driver within your
    school, you are the driver, but there are track
    maintenance (SEN coordinator), engineers (IT
    support), station staff (teachers) and
    controllers (headteachers).

  • In order to track children who are potentially
    missing from education
  • In order to track the location of vulnerable
    children such as Looked After Children
  • In order to produce school budgets
  • In order to produce school profiles
  • In order to work with colleagues in health and
    other services to provide services to children
    such as vaccinations
  • In order to ensure that sufficient school places
    are available across the LA

    Education Needs
  • Reminders that you should be running trial
    version of census in advance - dont leave it to
    the day!!

    pupils Unique Learner Number (ULN)
  • Schools delivering 14-19 diplomas will have to
    hold the ULN in their systems to enable
    constituent qualification results to be brought
    together and aggregated to produce a Diploma
    award and grade.

  • Introduction, collection and validation of Funded
    Hours accessed by three-and four-year olds
    nursery classes
  • Census will collect the number of government
    funded hours accessed by pupils aged 3 and 4 year
    old as at the 31 August 2008 regardless of their
    NC Year group in the census week to the nearest
    half-hour.
  • All pupils aged 3/4 as at the 31 August 2008 are
    entitled to 12.5 hrs
  • For dually registered pupils only record the
    funded hours attending each school
