Starting of Earthquake

• The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 occurred on
  April 18, 1906.
• It hit at 512 a.m.
• The total time of the earthquake was about 45-60
  seconds.

1906 Fault of San Francisco Earthquake

• This fault was a total of 296 miles long when it
  ruptured in 1906.
• It is compared with the 1989 Loma Prieta
  earthquake fault rupture. It was only 25 miles
  long.

Fire Caused From the Earthquake

• The fire that was caused by the earthquake took
  three days and nights to get under control.
• It finally went out on April 21, 1906.
• From this fire one quarter of the city was burned
  up.

Damage of 1906 Earthquake

• There were 28,000 buildings destroyed in the
  earthquake.
• 225,000 people were left homeless afterwards.

• The rupture moved at a total speed of 5,800
  mi/hr.
• It measured 8.25 on the Richter Scale.

• The total damage of the earthquake and fire cost
  400 million dollars.
• The earthquake itself caused 80 thousand dollars
  worth of damage.

• This is the siesmogram of the earthquake in
  Gottingen, Germany in 1906.
• This earthquake was caused by the San Francisco
  earthquake which was 9,100 kilometers away.

• Scientists say that there is a 2 chance that an
  earthquake this strong could happen in the next
  30 years.
