Title: Accelerated Math

1
Accelerated Math
  • Students learn they can do math and enjoy it!
Finally a math program that provides success for
all students. Children set goals that motive them
    to master objectives.

2
What is Accelerated Math?
  • Accelerated Math allows children to work at their
own pace and their own level.
  • Individualized practices and tests.
  • Power lessons provide the instruction.
  • Accelerated Math provides the practice.

3
Who uses Accelerated Math?
  • Accelerated Math has been adopted by Fremont RE-1
School District for all students and teachers of
    grades 2-6.
  • The school year of 2002-2003 is the first full
year every 2-6 grade teacher in every school in
    our district used Accelerated Math.

4
Who can we ask about
Accelerated Math?
  • Debbie Knifong, Barb Webb, and Dan Masimer,
TOSAs (Teachers on Special Assignment) are
supporting the Accelerated Math Program for the
    2002-2003 school year.
  • The goal of the TOSAs is to support the 2-6
grade teachers to understand the program and
incorporate it into their toolbox of math lessons.

5
Tell Me About Accelerated Math
  • Accelerated Math includes libraries for each
grade level. The program automatically prints
individual practices for the child based on the
skills they are currently working one. Children
work practices covering several objectives at one
time until they score at least 80 on a practice.
  • After achieving 80 or more on a practice, the
children are ready for a test.
  • The teacher prints tests for children to are
ready to test. When the child scores 80 or
better on test objectives, that objective is
    considered mastered.

6
Tell Me More
  • The Accelerated Math Program

generates two review questions for the
mastered objectives over a period of two weeks
    after the objective is mastered.
  • When the child scores 80 or better on review
questions the program will not generate any more
questions on this objective for this student.

7
Accelerated Math Reports
  • The Program generates reports that provide
teachers with a variety of information.
  • The Diagnostic Report identifies students who are
in need of intervention. It also provides the
number of objectives ready to be tested.
  • The Status of the Class Report provides averages
on practices, tests, and reviews. It also
provides information on students goals and the
    percent of goal met.

8
The Opportunity To Praise Students Reports--(TOPS
Report)
  • TOPS Reports automatically print after a
students practice, test, or exercise assignment
    has been scored.
  • This report give the children the opportunity to
review their performance on the included
    objectives.
  • Teachers review the TOPS Report with the student.
This allows the teacher to offer praise,
    encouragement, or intervention as needed.
