• Act I Protagonist is happy powerful
• Act II Introduction of problem or dilemma
• Act III Problem reaches point of crisis but
  could still be avoided if handled properly
• Act IV Protagonist fails to avert catastrophe,
  disaster occurs
• Act V Conclusion What results from catastrophe

• born of noble birth
• responsible for own fate
• has a tragic flaw called hamartia missing
  the mark
• doomed to make a serious error in judgment
• falls from great heights or from high esteem
• realizes s/he has made an irreversible mistake
• faces and accepts death with honor
• meets a tragic death or a fate worse than death

Dramatic Irony

• When the reader knows something the protagonist
  doesnt know. The protagonists actions are an
  exact opposite of how the reader knows the
  character should act.
• Horror films You know what is behind the next
  door, the main character doesnt, and you scream
  at her, Dont open that door, moron!
