  • Ideal Gas Laws Experiment

Part A Determination of the Gas Constant
  • Set up a lab stand with a burette clamp as shown.
    Use this lab stand for both Parts A and B.
  • Fill the eudiometer tube with 6M HCl then over
    fill with distilled water and close with a
    rubber stopper.
  • Wrap weighed Zn metal in copper gauze and place
    it under a small funnel in the bottom of the 800
    mL beaker. Fill beaker with water.
  • Invert the eudiometer tube into the beaker,
    remove the stopper and place the tube opening
    over the small funnel.
  • Remove 2/3 of the water from the beaker.

Part B Determination of the molar mass of an
Unknown Gas
  • Turn the lab stand around so the Part A apparatus
    is at the back as shown here.
  • Use a clamp to hold the drying tube, then connect
    the round flask to one end of the drying tube and
    the plastic bottle to the other end with the
    rubber stopper and glass pieces provided.
  • The gas will be generated in the round flask and
    collected in the plastic Bottle.
