Bangladesh is a country in South Asia. It
is located in the Ganges Delta where the Ganges,
Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers meet. It is the
eighth most populous country in the world with
over 170 million inhabitants. Bangladesh has an
area of less than 150 thousand km2. The capital
and largest city is Dhaka. The country is part of
the old region of Bengal, which was under British
rule from 1757 to 1947. Bangladesh declared
independence from Pakistan in 1971. After gaining
independence, Bengali became the only official
language. Despite gaining independence,
Bangladesh remained a poor country. Most of the
country lies below 12 m above sea level. In the
south, it has a coastline along the Bay of
Bengal, where the largest mangrove forests in the
world are located. The country's territory is
exposed to frequent strong cyclones.

Está situado en el delta del Ganges, donde se
unen los ríos Ganges, Brahmaputra y Meghna. Es el
octavo país más poblado del mundo, con más de 170
millones de habitantes. Bangladesh tiene una
superficie de menos de 150.000 km². Su capital y
ciudad más grande es Dacca. El país forma parte
de la antigua región de Bengala, que estuvo bajo
dominio británico de 1757 a 1947. Bangladesh
declaró su independencia de Pakistán en 1971.
Tras obtener la independencia, el bengalí se
convirtió en el único idioma oficial. A pesar de
obtener la independencia, Bangladesh siguió
siendo un país pobre. La mayor parte del país se
encuentra por debajo de los 12 m sobre el nivel
del mar. En el sur, tiene una costa a lo largo de
la Bahía de Bengala, donde se encuentran los
bosques de manglares más grandes del mundo. El

najludnatejšiu krajinu sveta s viac ako 170
miliónmi obyvatelov. Bangladéš má rozlohu
necelých 150 tisíc km2. Hlavným a najväcším
mestom je Dháka. Krajina je súcastou starého
regiónu Bengálsko, ktoré bolo pod britskou
nadvládou od roku 1757 až do roku 1947. Bangladéš
vyhlásil nezávislost od Pakistanu v roku 1971. Po
získaní nezávislosti sa bengálcina stala jediným
úradným jazykom. Napriek získaniu nezávislosti
Bangladéš zostal chudobnou krajinou. Väcšina
krajiny leží nižšie ako 12 m nad morom. Na juhu
má pobrežie pozdlž Bengálskeho zálivu, kde sa
rozkladajú najväcšie mangrovové lesy na svete.
Územie krajiny je vystavené castým silným
cyklónom.
