WHAT IS A LOCUM PHYSICIAN ASSOCIATE?
As per the 2021 data, there are around 200,000
physicians in the UK, which accounts for only 3
physicians for every 1,000 people. Hence, even
with the NHS, the most significant public health
service provider in the UK, and other private
hospitals doing a fantastic job taking care of
patients, there is still a need for more
physicians. Also, it takes around 7 years to
become a physician and about five more years to
become a specialist physician. It is here that
the physician associates who are also medical
professionals play a pivotal part in assisting
physicians and are based in GP surgeries and
hospitals. And locum physician associate works in
place of a regular physician to be part of the
wider medical team.
