Title: Tendonitis Symptoms And Causes

1
Tendonitis Symptoms And Causes
2
Tendonitis, also spelled tendinitis, is a
condition characterized by inflammation,
irritation, or swelling of a tendon, which is the
thick, fibrous cord that attaches muscle to bone.
It commonly occurs as a result of overuse,
repetitive motion, or sudden injury, leading to
microtears or damage to the tendon. Tendonitis
can affect any tendon in the body but often
occurs in areas subject to repetitive movements,
such as the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and
ankles
3
Symptoms Of Tendonitis
  • Pain
  • Tenderness
  • Swelling
  • Stiffness

4
Pain
Tendonitis often presents as localized pain in
the affected area, which may range from mild to
severe. The pain may worsen with movement or
activity involving the affected tendon.
Tenderness
The area around the affected tendon may feel
tender to the touch, and pressing on it may
elicit pain.
5
Swelling
Tendonitis can cause swelling or inflammation
around the affected tendon, resulting in visible
swelling or puffiness.
Stiffness
Tendonitis may lead to stiffness or limited range
of motion in the affected joint, making it
difficult to move the affected area freely.
6
Causes Of Tendonitis
  • Sports and physical activities
  • Muscle imbalances
  • Systemic diseases
  • Trauma or injury

7
Sports and physical activities
Participation in sports or activities that
involve repetitive motions, such as running,
swimming, tennis, golf, or weightlifting, can
increase the risk of tendonitis.
Muscle imbalances
Weak or tight muscles surrounding the tendons can
alter biomechanics and lead to abnormal stress on
the tendons, increasing the risk of tendonitis.
8
Systemic diseases
Underlying medical conditions, such as rheumatoid
arthritis, diabetes, or inflammatory disorders,
can increase the risk of tendonitis by affecting
tendon health and integrity.
Trauma or injury
Sudden impact, forceful exertion, or direct
trauma to the tendons can cause microtears or
damage, leading to tendonitis.
