Title: No Shock Bills Here Affordable Residential Electrical Upgrades

No Shock Bills Here Affordable Residential
Electrical Upgrades
  • Bay Electric San Francisco

2
  • Residential electricians maintain and repair
power systems inside housing units. Upgrading
your homes electrical system increases its
resale value. Potential buyers seek houses with
upgraded wiring that shields them from power
    shortages and overloads.
  • Upgrading to a 200-amp service panel costs around
1,800 for installation. This larger capacity
serves large homes with many appliances and high
    energy demands

3
Upgrading Your Service Panel
  • Your service panel, or breaker box, distributes
electricity throughout your home. If it has a low
capacity or you have an old fuse box, an upgrade
is necessary to accommodate modern appliances and
devices. The panel may also need to be upgraded
to a higher amperage if you are adding a new
workshop, a pool or other large installations
that require high power by the help of the
    Residential Electrician.
  • If your lights are flickering or you constantly
have tripped circuit breakers, it is time to
upgrade the electrical system. A tripped circuit
breaker indicates that there is too much current
being used. This can lead to electrical fires.
  • Modern electrical panels have breakers that can
be reset with a flip of a switch. Upgrading from
a 100 amp to 200 amp service is a simple
replacement with no substantial rewiring. A
400-amp service is more complicated and requires
changing the location of the breaker box and
    substantial new wiring.

Installing New Light Fixtures
  • Installing new light fixtures in rooms, hallways
and other areas of your home is a great way to
brighten up an area. It is important to consult
the directions that came with your fixture to see
how it should be attached to the junction box.
  • Typically black and white wires connect to the
box, sometimes using screw terminals and other
times with a special connector. The copper (or
green) wire often connects to a small screw on
the mounting plate of the ceiling fixture, but it
can also be connected to a separate grounding
    screw in the junction box.
  • As with the electrical panel upgrade, shut off
power to the area by flipping the breaker before
starting any work. Make sure you have all the
tools and supplies you need before attempting
this project, and be careful not to damage your
fixture or the wires in your ceiling electrical
box. Be sure to wear protective gear when
    handling live electricity.

Adding Circuit Breakers
  • An electrical panel is a metal box on your house
that receives electricity from the power company
and distributes it to outlets throughout your
home through energized wires. If you're seeing
signs of an outdated fuse box or electric system,
it may be time for an upgrade.
  • If you're experiencing flickering lights,
constantly tripped breakers, or a burning smell
around your breaker box, it could be due to an
overload of electricity. Adding new circuits or
upgrading to a bigger breaker panel will help
    solve the problem.
  • Electrical panels typically hold 200 amps, which
is more than enough power for most homes.
Upgrading to a 300- or 400-amp service is rare
but can be necessary when homeowners install
large appliances like EV chargers, build home
additions, or construct workshops with powerful
power tools. These upgrades are not a
do-it-yourself project as they require expert
installation and can be very dangerous. Licensed
contractors can provide quotes based on your
specific project before work begins after that
all of this is done by the help of the
    electrician.
