How to get Hospitalization Leave in Singapore
If you are an employee in Singapore, you are
entitled to paid hospitalization leave if you
have worked for your employer for at least 3
months. Hospitalization leave is different from
sick leave and is reserved for cases where you
are required to be admitted to a hospital.

  • To be eligible for hospitalization leave, you
    must
  • Be warded in a hospital as an in-patient or for
    day surgery.
  • Be quarantined under any written law.

2
  • Be certified by a medical practitioner who can
admit patients into an approved hospital,
    including medical practitioners from national
    specialty centers and ambulatory surgical
    centers.
  • Once you have met the eligibility criteria, you
can apply for hospitalization leave by
  • Informing your employer as soon as possible of
your hospitalization. You should do this within
48 hours of admission, if possible.
  • Providing your employer with a medical
certificate (MC) from the doctor who admitted
you to the hospital. The MC should state the date
of admission, the date of discharge, and the
    reason for hospitalization.
  • Completing and submitting a hospitalization leave
application form to your employer. This form is
usually available on your company's intranet or
    HR portal.
  • Your employer may also require you to provide
    additional documentation, such as
  • A copy of your hospital bill.
  • A letter from your doctor confirming that you
were unable to work due to your hospitalization.
  • Once your employer has approved your
hospitalization leave application, you will be
entitled to paid leave for the duration of your
    hospitalization. The amount of paid
hospitalization leave you are entitled to will
depend on your length of service with your
    employer.
  • Here is a table showing the hospitalization leave
    entitlements for employees in Singapore

Length of service Paid hospitalization leave entitlement
Less than 3 months Not entitled to paid hospitalization leave
3 to 6 months Pro-rated paid hospitalization leave
6 months or more 60 days of paid hospitalization leave

It is important to note that your employer is not
required to grant you paid hospitalization leave
if you are hospitalized for a non-work-related
illness or injury. However, many employers do
offer paid hospitalization leave as a benefit to
their employees. If you have any questions about
your hospitalization leave entitlements, you
should speak to your employer or HR
representative. Manage leave requests in
