  • This marks a significant increase from 2019 when
    the percentage was 68.
  • India has the highest proportion of undertrials
    in the world.

    prisoners, and 1,22,852 are convicted.
  • Female prisoner numbers are growing.
  • Prisons operate with staffing levels about 30
    below requirements.
