Introduction Facts

• Cotton is one of the most important fibre and
  cash crop of India and plays a dominant role in
  the industrial and agricultural economy of the
  country. It provides the basic raw material
  (cotton fibre) to cotton textile industry.
• In India, there are 10 major cotton-growing
  states, which are divided into three zones, viz.
  north zone, central zone and south zone. North
  zone consists of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
  Central zone includes Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra
  and Gujarat. South zone comprises Andhra Pradesh,
  Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
• There are multiple factors affecting the
  production of cotton crop production and its
  quality. Insect pest are the major cause, which
  contributes 13 loss due to Insect, 10 due to
  weeds and 8 due to Diseases.
• In India highest productivity per Hectare is
  found in the state of Gujarat which is 674 kg/ha
  followed by Punjab - 671 kg/ha, Rajasthan - 640
  kg/ha and others.
