Parents and school play an important role in
forming habits in children. Our children know
that parents love them and provide all that they
ask for. But it is also important for the
children to realize early on that on some
occasions they will need to hear a
No.  Situation goes out of hand when a child
doesnt take no for an answer. We need to be
very patient in tackling such situations. Parents
have to be clear and honest with themselves
about the reality of the situation if they have
nurtured this never take no for an answer
problem in their kids. If the child is pushing
back when you say no, understand that up until
now, youve watered and fed that behavior, and it
grew. So to expect this behavior to change
without any conflict is unrealistic.

• An important job of the parent is to teach their
  child and set limits. The limit setting role, in
  particular, is an essential part of a parenting
  style.
• Never be loud or rude with them. 
• Talk to your kids as if you like them, even when
  saying no. 
• Dont scowl. 
• Be warm and speak with a soft tone that gives
  them the message that you care about them.
• In Beansprouts, we always believe in gentle

  (DROP teachers) are always friendly but firm when
  they sayno.
• If your child doesnt listen to NO, firmly
  tell her/ him to accept it. If the nagging
  doesnt stop you have to give him a break.
  Explain things again when the child is calm.
  Being overly strict can backfire in the long run.
  So dont shout or get angry. Let the child
  understand that he has to listen to his parents.

This change might take some time but eventually
the child would relent and stop all blackmailing
tactics like crying, shouting, throwing tantrums
etc. A parent must make the child respond to
their dos and donts and this can be shaped by
explaining why you are saying No.  The complex
relationship between a child and parents needs
constant vigil, tenderness and a gentle
nudge! Being a parent also means that we need to
model positive behavior ourselves. Happy
