  • This week, British Columbia and Ontario sent out
    invitations to candidates to apply through the
    Provincial Nominee Program.

  • Most Canadian provinces and territories (except
    Quebec and Nunavut) have their own provincial
    candidate programs. Through these programs,
    interested candidates may be invited to apply for
    state nomination.
  • Quebecs immigration programs are administered by
    the province and are distinct from Canadas
    immigration programs.
  • The PNP was launched in 1998 and now accounts for
    over 80,000 PR admissions per year. The increase
    in the number of PNP admissions in Canada is
    because the federal and provincial governments
    consider it an effective tool to promote

Ontario
  • On September 29, the Ontario Immigrant Candidates
    Program (OINP) invited 1,340 candidates from the
    Express Entry Skilled Trades category. Candidates
    must score 266 points
  • To qualify for this category, candidates must
    already reside in Ontario and must have at least
    one year of cumulative full-time paid work
    experience (or (the equivalent of paid part-time
    work)). National Occupational Classification
    (NOC) major group 72, 73 or 82. Work experience
    must have been obtained within the last two
    years.

British Columbia
  • On October 4, more than 229 candidates were
    invited to contest the provincial nomination in
    British Columbia.
  • The majority of candidates (184) were invited to
    the general draw, which included technical
    positions. Invitations have been sent to
    candidates in the Skilled Worker and
    International Postgraduate categories, which
    include Express Entry candidates.
  • The minimum SIRS scores earned by general lottery
    competitors range from 82 to 120.

The state also held invitational competitions for
candidates for the following occupations.
  • 32 early childhood educators and assistants with
    a score of at least 60 (NOC 4214). world
  • 13 health workers in the skilled worker,
    international graduate, entry-level and
    semi-skilled worker (including EEBC option)
    categories with a score of 60 or higher
  • Entry-level and semi-skilled categories of health
    aides with a minimum score of 60.
  • Other preferred occupations with a minimum score
    of 60.

The BC PNP considers several factors based on the
state's workforce needs. British Columbia
believes that
  • Education The level and field of education and
    where it is completed
  • language skills
  • Profession
  • Length of work experience and skill level
  • Job salary and/or skill level
  • intend to live, work or settle in a specific area
  • Strategic focus Addressing factors specific to
    the needs of the British Columbia labour market o
    Supporting government pilot projects and
    initiatives

  • This will be one of last October's draws, as BC
    has suspended the October 12-November 16 draw due
    to the transition from the 2016 NOC to 2021.
