The Newport Harbor is a great place to launch
your kayak or SUP. Many of the areas around the
harbor have plenty of shore access, so you wont
have to drag your boat across sand or rocks. You
can even park your car right next to the water.
Here are some places we recommend
Corona Del Mar
This beach is one of the most popular spots for
launching kayaks and SUPs in Newport Beachand
with good reason! The water here is calm, the
waves are minimal (even during high tide), and
there are plenty of places to park your car close
by so that you dont have far to walk with your
gear.

Balboa Island
Another good option is Balboa Island, which has
two launch sites one on West Bay Drive and
another on South Bay Drive, both of which offer
public parking. You can also launch from this
location if you have a boat dock or slip in
Newport Beach (those with boating privileges). If
you prefer public beaches, there are plenty of
options along Balboa Island however, these may
be more crowded than other parts of Newport
Harbor because theyre so popular with locals and
tourists alike!
Ocean Avenue
Youll find this spot just south of Balboa Island
on the Mainland side. Its a great place to
launch if youre looking for something with less
traffic than Balboa Island but still want to see
some of the local wildlife.
Bayside Park
This is another popular spot because its close
to downtown Newport Beach, which means there are
often plenty of people around to watch while
youre out on your paddle or SUP ride!
East Beach
Theres something about launching from this beach
that feels like youre taking off into the wild
blue yonder, but its really just Newport Beach.
Youll get some fantastic views of the bay and
Coronado Island, as well as being able to see
boats coming in and out of the harbor.
