Medium density fiberboard, or MDF, is what it's
called informally. This board is made from wood
fibers (approximately 85) and compressed
synthetic resins, giving it a higher density than
traditional chipboard or plywood. It is commonly
called MDF wood or pressed wood. However, this
is not exact, since not strictly speaking of wood
as it is obtained from nature, but of a product
derived from it. During the manufacturing
process, certain chemical products can be added
to add additional characteristics to the MDF,
such as repelling water or preventing the
appearance of fungi or mold.
Advantages of MDF wood
  • Being made from tiny fibers, practically powder,
allows it to be carved or milled similarly to
    solid wood.
  • One of the significant advantages of MDF compared
to solid wood is its much more competitive
    price.
  • It is unnecessary to use tools other than those
used to work with solid or plywood.
  • This sort of wood's surface is suitable for
applying paint and varnish, although, for the
best result, solvent-based paints should be used
rather than water-based ones. Since there is no
grain, the outcome is the same in every
    direction.
  • It is also excellent support for wood veneers,
with which a solid wood appearance is achieved.
This is due, on the one hand, to its uniform
surface and the excellent behavior of adhesives
    and glues on it.

What can MDF be used for?
  • MDF wood is an ideal material for making
furniture as it is easy to work with easy to
cut and machine and does not produce splinters.
In addition, using nails or screws may not be
necessary since wood glues have an excellent
    performance on this wood.
  • As an ideal surface for painting, its use is
recommended for large and smooth pieces, for
example, to cover walls. It also offers
additional characteristics, such as good thermal
    and acoustic insulation.
  • MDF manufacturers all types of furniture, kitchen
    doors
  • and interior doors, support for laminate floors,
    etc.
  • A common use of MDF is in conjunction with solid
wood moldings so that MDF is used for the long,
smooth planes, and the moldings are fixed to
obtain the desired result. It is common on doors,
    wall coverings, and even furniture.
