DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) is carried
out with the networks of internet-connected
machines that consist of computers and other
devices, such as IoT devices which are infected

methods
Sinkholing The malicious traffic is directed
away from its target, usually using a list of
known malicious IP addresses to identify DDoS

against IP spoofing, wherein the threat actor
hides the true source of the IP packets in order
to hide the identity of the sender, or
impersonate another computer system, or both.
Null routing Also known as blackholing, all
traffic is directed to a non-existent IP address
by the DDoS mitigation software. However, this
method can cause a high ratio of false positives.

IP masking This method prevents direct-to-IP
DDoS attacks by hiding the IP of the origin
server.
Scrubbing This method of DDoS attack mitigation
is an improvement on the arbitrary sinkholing.
The DDoS scrubbing service routes all ingress
traffic through a security service. Malicious
network packets are identified based on the
header content.
