Bronchial Thermoplasty

• Bronchial thermoplasty is application of heat to
  the 3-10mm sized bronchi with help of catheter
  system through a flexible bronchoscope under
  general anesthesia FOR patients with SEVERE
  ASTHMA
• It reduces the amount of thickened smooth muscle
  on the inside walls of the airways

Take home message

• Asthma poses a significant burden both in OPD
  IPD settings
• Asthma is an under-diagnosed and under-treated
  condition in our country
• Diagnose asthma on the basis of symptoms and
  airway reversibility
• Rule out differential diagnosis
• Apply TADTOS to achieve asthma control
• With advent of biologics and thermoplasty there
  is hope for patients with severe asthma also
