PMI Chapters
What is PMI?
PMI has recruited volunteers to create industry
standards, such as a PMBOK "A Guide to the
Project Management Body of Knowledge", which has
been recognized by the American National
Standards Institute (ANSI). In 2012 ISO adapted
the project management processes from the PMBOK
Guide 4th edition.
PMI Chapters are volunteer-run communities that
allow members to connect to other project
management professionals, develop their skills
and give back to their local area. PMI has more
than 300 local Chapters in over 103 countries.
PMI is a not-for-profit, founded on 1969, the
leading professional association for project
management, and the authority for a growing
global community of millions of project
professionals and individuals who use project
management skills. Collectively, these
professionals and changemakers consistently
create better outcomes for businesses, community
and society worldwide.

How does the release of the PMBOK Guide
Seventh Edition impact the Project Management
Professional (PMP) certification exam?
Main Reference Material to Prepare for PMP Exam
  • The PMBOK Guide is an input to preparing for the
PMP exam and is listed as a reference but it
is not a test-preparation tool. The new PMP
exam, which launched 2 January 2021, will
continue to use the PMBOK Guide Sixth Edition
as one of several references. The new exam has
been planned for some time and is not related to
the release of the PMBOK Guide Seventh
    Edition.
  • We strongly recommend that candidates refer to
the current Exam Content Outline for up-to date
    information about preparing for certifications.
