A Brief Guide to Home and Commercial Safes
2
  • If youre unsure what type of safe would best
suit your needs, the following guide will give
you a brief outline of the options. For more
detailed guidance, chat to your local safe
    supplier and installer
  • Deposit safes, or drop safes
  • A popular type of safe for retail companies and
restaurants, employees are able to deposit cash
or documents using a hopper-like door at the top
of the safe, without having access to the main
compartment. There is of course, a regular door
on the front of the safe with a lock.

3
  • High security safes
  • These safes offer the highest level of protection
for commercial enterprises, and are extremely
robust and secure. Including the TL and TR
categories of safe, they are usually designed and
constructed with a variety of barriers to prevent
anyone from drilling into them, and they also
have additional locking mechanisms that deploy
when they detect a forced entry.

4
  • Fire-Rated Safes
  • These are freestanding safes with the ability to
keep their contents protected from heat and
flames in the event of a fire at home or at work.
Having a fire-rated safe gives you the
reassurance that your precious and valuable items
will be safe while you concentrate on getting
family members or employees safely out of the
building. Rated for a specific period of time
which is tested and determined by UL (a global
safety certification company), while no safe is
ever entirely fire proof, you can still keep your
valuables protected for longer with a fire rated
    safe.

5
  • Office/commercial Safes
  • Commonly used in the retail and restaurant
sector, too, commercial safes can be either
bolted securely to the floor, or left
freestanding. Typically fire resistant with very
high fire ratings, they are also tested by
dropping them to make sure that should a burglar
be able to lift it and drop it, the contents of
the safe would remain secure. However, these
safes are extremely heavy and difficult to lift,
so the chances of this happening are slim to none.

6
  • Similar in both their design and structure to
home safes, commercial safes come with electronic
locks and higher security ratings than the
    average home safe.
  • Data or Media Safes
  • Data safes are designed and constructed to
    protect valuable, sensitive and important
information stored on electronic devices, from
high temperatures and smoke damage in the event
of a fire. Digital media is only able to
withstand temperatures less than 125 degrees
Fahrenheit, so its important to take steps to
protect it in such a way.

7
  • Below are some of the types of items typically
    stored in data safes
  • USB/Flash drives
  • Hard drives
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • In Floor Safes
  • Designed to be kept concealed in concrete on the
ground, these safes are the ultimate in
commercial protection and many businesses have
them to store high value items in. The average
homeowner, however, wouldnt likely invest in one
because there would be no need.

8
  • Safes are the only way to ensure that your
precious and valuable items are kept truly
protected from harm or theft, and are a
worthwhile investment for anyone with anything
    worth protecting.
