Tramadol Oxycodone
Both the pain relievers Tramadol Oxycodone are
useful for moderate to severe pain. Generally
both are effective pain killers but Tramadol is
more impactful in giving severe pain relief than
that of Oxycodone.
3
Tramadol vs. Oxycodone What are the differences?
Tramadol and Oxycodone are pain relievers meant
for moderate to severe pain and are required
when no other pain killers work. The way
Tramadol and Oxycodone work is they interact
with opioid receptors in the brain to reduce
pain signal strength. They may be used to treat
different sorts of pains like musculoskeletal
pain and post-surgical pain. While they are used
in the aforementioned sort of pain, these two
drugs are unique and different from each other.
4
What are the main differences between Tramadol
and Oxycodone?
Tramadol is a prescription based narcotic drug

that is used to treat different sorts of pain
including
the aforementioned ones which are
moderate to
severe for which other painkillers
are in vain. Moreover, Tramadol can also be used
in
high traumatic pain such as
post-operative
pain in which
obviously no other pain killer will
work.
The way Tramadol works is it interacts with

mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system

(CNS) and alters the bodys perception and
response
to pain through the ascending pain pathways.
Tramadol also
prevents the intake of nor-epinephrine and
serotonin
neurotransmitters, which are also involved in
the descending pathway. When Tramadol first came
to market, it was not classified as a controlled
substance. In 2014, the Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) in the United Kingdom (UK)
re-classified Tramadol as a Schedule IV
controlled substance. Tramadol can easily be
misused therefore, its use should be monitored
closely.
5
Tramadol vs. Oxycodone What are the differences?
Tramadol is available in a tablet and solution

form in both immediate-release and extended

release formulations. It is also available in
combination
with acetaminophen, the active
ingredient in over
the counter Tylenol. Oxycodone is
also a prescription opioid
pain reliever.
Oxycodone binds to opioid receptors in
the
CNS pathway causing inhibition in the ascending
pain
pathway. This alters perception and response to
pain
and causes generalized CNS depression. Oxycodone
is a Schedule II controlled substance. It
has a very high potential for addiction,
abuse, and misuse. Oxycodone is available as an
oral tablet in both immediate-release and
extended-release formulations. It is also
available in formulations that combine it with
acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, naloxone, or
naltrexone.
6
Is Tramadol or Oxycodone more effective?
In general and through the studies, Oxycodone has
long been
considered as a more effective painkiller
drug than
Tramadol. Pain relievers are
commonly compared on the basis
of morphine
equivalent dosing. Studies found that Oxycodone

is 1.5 times more effective than morphine,
while Tramadol is equivalent to morphine. One
study compared pain relief after facial

surgery using Tramadol and Oxycodone. In
this study, the
drugs were
administered through the nerves through a

patient-controlled device. Pain control was found
to be similar
between the two
groups, with no statistical difference between
the two.
Tramadol does not cause respiratory problems to
the extent
that Oxycodone does. However, patients
experienced more vomiting
with Tramadol as a side
effect than Oxycodone. Researchers concluded
that Tramadol
provided pain relief comparable to Oxycodone
without the risk of severe
respiratory problems.
