How We Help To Improve Your Writing Skills For
  • The International English Language Testing
System, or IELTS, is an international standardized
test of English language proficiency for
people for whom English is a second language.
  • For a many students, the writing part of the
IELTS test can be the more stressful, but dont
worry, Dream n Destination have shared top tips
for everyone who might be finding it tough.

First Understand Which Type Of IELTS Exam You
Need To Take
  • Before start IELTS, very important to know the
difference between Academic and General IELTS.
  • There are two different IELTS exams
  • Academic
  • General
  • The Academic IELTS is suitable for people wanting
to study in an English-speaking higher education e
  • The General exam is suitable for people wanting
to study at a lower level or who need
to demonstrate their English level for work or
other purposes. The main differences between the
two exams are the topics and language you are
    expected to use.
  • This post focuses on the Academic writing test.

  • The written exam is split into two tasks. The
first task is expected to take 20 minutes and has
a minimum word count of 150 words. The second
task is expected to take 40 minutes, with a
minimum word count of 250 words. The word counts
and time limits reflect the fact that task 2
counts for twice as many marks as task.
  • So always take care about the time, so you
complete both tasks and still have enough time to
    check and correct your work.

Always Make An Outline
  • Before you start writing, you should make an
outline. Students sometimes argue that because it
is a timed test, they shouldnt spend precious
minutes making an outline. This is simply not
true! An outline will save you time.
  • It also help you to organize your ideas and put
them in the best order before you start writing.

Read The Questions Carefully
  • You lose marks if you answer the task incorrectly
    or answer it incompletely because
you havent read the question properly. This is a
    common mistake to avoid.

Focus On Language, Not Length
  • IELTS writing does not need to be long, although
you do need to aim for the required word count
(150 and 250 words). Task 2 essays need only have
two strong body paragraphs, although three is
certainly a plus if you can manage it. You score
points for using complex sentence structure and
    strong vocabulary accurately and naturally.
  • Avoid repeating the same cohesive words

Make Your Answer Visually Appealing
  • Make your answer into clear paragraphs. Take it
as part of your preparation before you begin to
write anything. For example For an advantages/
disadvantages essay you would probably need four
  • An introduction
  • One paragraph to discuss the advantages
  • One paragraph to discuss the disadvantages
  • A conclusion
  • You will lose marks if your answer has not been
split up into paragraphs, or if you havent used
    them in the correct way.

Good luck!
