Domain Name
  • A web hosting service is a form of internet
hosting service for making websites of different
    organizations and individuals accessible through
    the world wide web.
  • A name is the identity of anything or any person.
Similarly, every website also has its name which
    is termed a domain.
  • This domain happens to be a unique address for
    searching the website.
  • This domain consists of two parts, the name and
the extension, such as .com, .net, .org etc.

  3. Country Code Domain Extension

Domain Extension
  • Generic Domain Extensions Generic domain
extensions are a widely used category of
extension. Most of the online businesses all over
the world use an extension category of the
generic domain. Common generic extensions are
    .org, .com and .net.
  • Sponsored Domain Extension The sponsored domain
extensions are used by selected few
organizations. The user needs to fulfil certain
qualifications for using this extension in their
website address. Some general sponsored domain
    extensions are .edu and .gov.
  • Country Code Domain Extension These are
country-specific extensions of the domain. There
are many countries that possess their own two
lettered unique domain extension for implying the
location of the organization. For example, Indian
startups and other business enterprises use .in
extension, organizations of United Kingdom use
    .uk, UAE uses .ae etc.

5
Types of Extensions
  • .com The .com extension previously was used
for e-commerce but over time it gained popularity
for being used in most commercial websites. The
growing demand for the .com extension has made it
one of the most selected choices for independent
players, blogging sites and even personal
    websites as well.
  • .net The .net extension stands for the
network. Previously this extension was used for
    websites specialising in various network-based
technology like email services, ISPs and database
services. The .net extension is the second most
popular extension used widely all over the world.
  • .org This extension was envisioned for
non-profit organisations. But at present time
this limitation has been lifted and made
    accessible to different charities and
    foundations, open-source software projects,
    education service providers and non-profit
entities. However, it is more likely to be used
    by a non-commercial user.
  • .co The .co stands for a corporation or
company. It is considered the best alternative to
the .net and .com throughout the world. This
extension is sometimes paired with a country-code
    domain extension.
