Technical SEO Definition 5 Technical Aspects
Everyone Should Know
2
What are the characteristics of a technically
optimized website?
  • A website that is technically sound works faster
and attracts more users. It is easy to crawl for
search engine bots. This can also eliminate the
confusion caused by duplicate content. Moreover,
such kind of site never sends its visitors or
    search engines non-working links.

3
Lets discuss five major technical aspects of
technical search engine optimization
4
The Page Loading Speed
  • Today, we need web pages that load fast and
mobile device-friendly. Modern users dont have
time for sites to load properly that takes too
much time. A 2016 research showed that 53 percent
of mobile website visitors leave if a site is not
    opening under three seconds.
  • Hence, if your site takes a lot of time to load,
thats the main reason why you are losing your
    site traffic.
  • Google is smart, and it knows that slow websites
do not have much to offer therefore, it allots
high ranks to websites that load faster to give
its users an optimal experience. Slow sites
usually end up in the later pages where people
dont even bother to go once they have found what
they are looking for in the first pages.

5
Crawlable For Search Engines
  • Did you know that search engines use spiders that
crawl your web pages? Well, now you do!
  • These spiders follow the links in order to
discover the content that you have given on your
site. If you created a solid internal linking
structure, they would surely understand what
content on your site is highly important
    according to users requirements.

6
Robots.txt file
  • Being a website owner, you can guide spiders to
crawl your site using a file called
robots.txt.file. However, keep in mind that this
tool is powerful and it requires careful
handling. Minor mistakes can prevent spiders from
crawling your site or its pages. Some people end
up blocking their website's JS and CSS files in
their robot.txt file. You must know that these
files have a code that tells search engines about
your sites appearance and how it works. If you
mistakenly block these files, search engines will
not be able to find whether or not your site
    works perfectly.

7
The Meta Robots Tag
  • If you need search engine spiders to crawl your
page, but you want to stop them from showing a
particular page in the search engine results, you
can use robots meta tag. Using these meta tags,
it gets easy to guide them about how to crawl a
page and not follow the given links.

8
Existence of Dead Links
  • Visitors do not like it when they land on a page
that does not exist at all. This annoys them
dramatically. If a link is taking them to a
site's page that is non-existent, visitors will
see a 404 error which destroys the user
    experience.
  • Moreover, search engines do not like it when they
get to see such error pages. Search engine finds
a greater number of dead links than visitors
because they follow all the links they encounter,
no matter if it is hidden.
  • To avoid unwanted dead links, one must always
choose to redirect a pages URL when they remove
or delete a page. The ideal action is to redirect
it to a page that replaces the previous one.
