The rising mental health crisis caused by the
pandemic, a dividing and toxic political
landscape, and a staggering unemployment rate
not to mention the damaging effects of alcohol,
drugs, illegal substances, and unhealthy eating
habits created by self-isolation and quarantines
are all set to leave a negative imprint in our
subconscious that will last for years to come.

I dont need to tell you that COVID-19 has caused
fear, uncertainty, social isolation, and parental
anguish that impact the mental health of our
children and adolescents. Comfort and safety are
vital to their overall health and wellbeing, but
these have been disrupted since the COVID-19
outbreak.

Children have many worries related to the effects
of COVID-19, such as whether they will see their
friends and relatives again, go to school, or
even get sick. Its difficult for parents to calm
their childrens anxieties because of their own
fear and uncertainty. We as parents are
typically adept at making plans for our children,
but many of us have been struggling at figuring
out whats next.

The challenges we are facing are interfering with
our natural ability to address our childrens
emotional needs. If we, the guides, the
influencers, the protectors, the role models, are
emotionally burdened by these events, how can we
provide a safe mental and emotional environment
for our children to thrive on?

Have You Been Shaken by Whats Happening? I
can tell you I have! My family, my friends, and
everyone I know have experienced the negative
ramifications of a devastating 2020. Yes, we all
felt the earth shake!! And its still shaking.

Dad Im afraid! Its a dangerous mess were in
dad! my son keeps on telling me, and hes only
18. I have to agree with him, but all things
considered, I must admit that his assertion is
modest. I know that our children are dangerously
affected by all this and it is why Im dedicating
all my time and energy to helping create global
awareness so they can have a better understanding
and a better coping mechanism to deal with the
craziness of this world.
