  • Chiropractic therapy has its roots in a theory of
universal health care, which postulates, "A
person is healthy when his organs are functioning
properly". Chiropractic philosophy is very much
linked to the concept of body balance. According
to this belief, any abnormal anatomical
arrangement is a direct result of a dysfunctional
nervous system. Chiropractors believe that a
Chiropractor can restore proper body balance by
    manipulation of the muscular-skeletal system.
  • Chiropractic treatments are classified into three
main categories primary care, preventive care,
and diagnostic care. Primary care includes
    diagnostic tests, preventive treatments and
    administrative services. Preventive care is
    directed at safeguarding against common
    muscular-skeletal disorders such as herniated
    disc, degenerative arthritis and osteoporosis.
Diagnostic care refers to evaluation and
management of patients suspected of having a
    specific medical condition.

  • Chiropractors practice a holistic approach to
health care that emphasizes the prevention of
diseases through the promotion of a healthy body
environment. A Chiropractor might use diagnostic
methods and therapeutic techniques in the course
of their chiropractic care. Some of the common
diagnostic methods used by chiropractors include
    spinal manipulation, electric stimulation,
x-rays, blood tests and clinical findings. Some
therapies used by chiropractors include manual
    adjustment of spinal joint structures,
    ultrasound, nutritional therapy, hydrotherapy,
herbal remedies and physical rehabilitation. A
Chiropractor might also recommend the use of
    non-surgical treatments such as therapeutic
    exercise, nutritional supplements and nutritional
    guidelines.

  • The goal of chiropractic care is to promote
overall wellness by working on the
    neuromuscular-skeletal vascular, circulatory and
neural systems of the human body. Some of the
    common conditions treated by chiropractors
include lower back pain, neck pain, pregnancy,
whiplash, jaw pain, migraine headaches and
    fibromyalgia. For some patients, chiropractic
treatment may help to eliminate or reduce the
symptoms of such conditions without the use of
medication. Sometimes, chiropractic care can help
to promote general health by improving the
quality of life. For example, in the case of low
back pain, relief from pain is usually possible
after the chiropractor manipulates and realigns
the alignment of the vertebrae in the lower back.

  • Chiropractic care has become increasingly popular
over the past decade, due to growing interest in
alternative health care and the role that
chiropractors play in providing symptom relief. A
national center for chiropractic care was
established in 2020 at George Washington
University in Washington, D.C. The Center for
Health Care Management and Policy Research was
named after the then newly minted president of
George Washington University, whose wife is a
    chiropractic practitioner. The Center has
received national acclaim for its comprehensive
research and educational activities. In 2020, it
was selected as one of the top twenty health
education centers in the United States by the
    National Academy of Public Health.

  • Chiropractic treatments are often controversial,
as they involve the manipulation of the spine and
joints. Spinal manipulation, in conjunction with
manual therapy, can help to realign the spine and
improve range of motion, range of pain and muscle
    function. Chiropractors perform their treatments
on their own or in group sessions. Manual
therapy, which consists of a variety of
therapeutic exercises designed to improve overall
health by affecting the nervous system and the
body's muscular structure, is sometimes used in
    conjunction with chiropractic treatments. Many
people are surprised to learn that chiropractic
treatments do not correct spinal misalignment, as
    is commonly believed. Rather, chiropractic
treatments strengthen and stabilize the spine,
helping to correct misalignment and restore range
    of motion and posture.
