What are Fissures?

• Anal Fissures are small cuts near the anus
  through which stool passes.
• It can occur in both male and female.
• Most of the times Fissures are confused with
  piles.

Difference between Fissure and piles

• Piles are swollen blood vessels in the lower
  area of anus. Fissure are cuts near the anal
  opening.
• The symptoms of piles and Fissures can be
  similar. If you feel lumps near the anus then it
  is haemorrhoids otherwise if there is cut or tear
  then it is fissure.

Difference between Fissure and piles

• However, in Piles, bleeding occurs after passing
  stools, while in Fissure bleeding occurs during
  passage of stools.
• Piles is not commonly painful, whereas intense
  pain is a striking feature of Fissure.

Causes of Fissure

• Passing Hard Stools or chronic constipation
• Strain during childbirth
• Frequent bowel movements during Diarrhea
• A cut may occur during insertion of a rectal
  thermometer,
• USG probe, endoscope, enema tube.
• Anal sex.

Symptoms of Fissure

• Painful defecation - This pain while passing
  stools may be so severe that patients are
  frightened of a bowel movement and avoid one. 
• Bleeding- sometimes seen as a streak of blood on
  stools or blood on the tissue.
• Need to strain while passing stools 
•  Itching in the anal region.
• Sentinel pile - In long standing cases, a skin
  tag like growth
• can be felt at the edge of the fissure.

• Sitz Bath After passing stools sit in warm
  water for 10-15 minutes.
• Ointments Using nitroglycerin or nifedipine
  ointment may help to heal fissure as it will
  smooth bowel movements.
• Fiber Rich Diet Include fiber rich diet in your
