Study Mobile Apps May Help Lower Misdiagnosis
2
One of the primary causes of medical malpractice
injury in Pennsylvania is misdiagnosis and
miscommunication. Its not uncommon for doctors
to correctly diagnose a condition but for wires
to get crossed between the diagnosis and the
actual treatment administered. In a recent study,
some researchers concluded that mobile apps can
improve accuracy in test ordering and diagnosis
among doctors.
3
The study, published in the Journal of American
Medical Informatics Association, was conducted by
researchers at the Baylor College of Medicine and
the Center for Disease Control. The study
reflects that mobile apps, specifically those
related to detecting hematologic disorders, can
greatly increase a doctors ability to diagnose
disorders and order appropriate lab testing. This
is particularly useful given the difficulty
normally associated with diagnosing such
conditions.
4
Misdiagnosis
According to the researchers, they intend to
continue evaluating mobile apps designed to
assist medical professionals in diagnosing
illnesses. Ultimately, their goal is to identify
apps that can assist physician decision-making
and be easily integrated into standard doctor
workflow. Its critical that these apps arent
just effective they should also be easy to adopt
by physicians during their normal duties.
Accurate diagnoses and intuitive laboratory
testing will likely lead to a sharp decrease in
misdiagnosis-related malpractice.
5
A victim of misdiagnosis may have the basis for a
medical malpractice claim. They could be entitled
to recover monetary damages related to any
injuries or related complications. An attorney
with experience in medical malpractice law may
help the victim by advising them on the strength
of the claim. The lawyer could also make a
thorough investigation of the claim and determine
if recovering damages is likely.
