What is Qi?

• The unseen, the invisible but always present
  life-blood of the universe is the single most
  important component of the study of Feng Shui.
• It mimics the forces in nature and is constantly
  evolving from one state to another, converting
  from one element to another in a pre-fixed
  sequence.
• The elements then have a particular influence on
  each sector of the property.
• Like the phases of the moon, or the movement of
  the tides, all of this follows a set pattern,
  hence we can, well in advance, predict the
  outcome of what happens to who, in which areas of
  the property, considering two main criteria, a
  persons date of birth and the house plans, to see
  how the possible interaction can turn out. This
  is why no two peoples luck can be the same in one
  house.

The concept of a Bright Hall

• The area just in front of your home, or main door
  is referred to as your Ming Tan, in Chinese or
  Bright Hall, in English.
• Since all the Energies enter your home from here,
  it is important that the situation here is
  positive in Feng Shui terms, and we need to be
  able to collect the energy here, and guide it
  into the house.
• If the are outside your main door is not perfect
  as it can be in a dark passage of an apartment
  block, then open up a window or let in the light
  from there.Natural light is the best.
• Your home shoudnt smell bad or musty, and
  natural sunlight absorbs this.

The concept of Clutter

• In order for the positive energy to flow inside
  the house, one needs to create a pathway for it
  to flow.
• Positive energy likes bright light, open space,
  and cleanliness.
• Negative energy, on the other hand, tends to be
  harboured in tight, messy and congested spaces,
  especially stagnant areas, hence we like to keep
  the home free of clutter.
• Clutter is not necessarily dirt, but more like a
  mess.
• It can also be an accumulation of usused stuff,
  and broken non-working items.
• If you are a hoarder or a collector, go through
  and re-arrange your collections regularly to let
  energy, or Qi circulate.

Kitchen guidelines

• Island stoves are a definite no no. So are sinks
  in an island. This challenges health, especially
  for the head of the household.
• Stoves are best installed with a wall behind, for
  stability
• No fire and water opposite /next to each other,
  maintain at least 2-3 feet distance.
• When you cook, the stove controls are key to good
  health energy. There are some basic guidelines
  but these are best left to an expert. A badly
  located stove can be an issue for health
  relationship issues.

• The direction one sleeps in is very important to
  get a good nights sleep.
• Each person, based on their year of borth,
  require or are able to sleep better in certain
  directions.
• It is always preferebale to place the beds
  headboard against a wall. Sometimes, if thats
  not suitable to you, simpley flipping over to the
  opposite side of the wall can improve ones sleep.
