Hindi-Urdu is the third in the  most commonly
spoken language in the world today. As South Asia
is becoming increasingly influential on the
global political, economic, and cultural scene,
Hindi-Urdu proficiency is an extraordinary asset
to anyone who is interested in the region for
business, research, or personal reasons. Even
though there are numerous languages spoken in
South Asia, Hindi-Urdu proves to be a common
platform for effective communication.

Learn Chamorro University of Hawaii at Manoa
Fino Chamoru is an Austronesian language, spoken
on the Mariana Islands (Guam, Rota, Tinian, and
Saipan) by about 47,000 people (about 35,000
people on Guam and about 12,000 in the N.
Marianas). In Guam, the language has become
endangered as the younger generation prefers to
speak English, but in the Northern Mariana the
language is still widely spoken.

The Tahitian Language
The Department of Hawaiian and Indo-Pacific
Languages and Literatures at the  University of
Hawaii- Manoa  is the only educational
institution in the english-speaking world to
offer a comprehensive course in any of the
languages of French Polynesia.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The coursework in Khmer (Cambodian) at the
University of Hawai'i (UH) is offered by the
Department of Indo-Pacific Languages and
Literatures. It includes four levels of study
(see below). Courses on other aspects of Cambodia
(such as history, anthropology, archeology, art,
art history, historic preservation, economics,
environmental studies, peace studies, business,
and Asian Studies) are offered by experts on the
staff of other UH departments.
