Pantones Colour of the Year 2020 has been
revealed as Classic Blue, which is described as
a timeless and enduring blue hue elegant in its
simplicity.

• Pantone is a US based company that provides
  universal colour standards that enable
  colour-critical decisions for brands and
  manufacturers across the globe.
• The Colour of the Year is chosen by its Colour
  Institute the business unit that forecasts
  global colour trends and advises companies on
  colour for product and brand visual identity.
• For over 20 years, Pantones Colour of the Year
  has influenced product development and purchasing
  decisions in multiple industries, including
  industrial design.
• In previous years, Pantones Colour of the Year
  has not always been a shade appropriate for
  auditorium or office seating (2019s colour was
  Living Coral, a peach/orange shade) but this
  years new hue is a classic colour, as the name
  suggests, that is much more suitable for the
  seating market.

• Choosing fabric colours for commercial seating is
  usually a decision for the long-term and not
  something always dictated by the latest colour
  trend but blue has long been a popular choice
  across the range of seating we manufacture.
• In honour of the new Colour of the Year, we see
  how some of our seats might look in Pantones
  Classic Blue and take a look at what blue fabrics
  have featured across the range of seating we
  manufacture.

• Whilst red is still the classic go-to colour for
  seating in theatres and cinemas, we have seen
  more requests for blues in recent years. Camiras
  Mainline Plus Clipper is the closest match to
  Classic Blue from the most popular fabric range
  we offer whilst Bluenote is a paler option.

Lecture Theatres

  that we find a much wider variety of fabric
  colours are being used, particularly on new build
  projects where architects are often specifying
  multiple coloured seats to be positioned in a
  random pattern. Whilst blue doesnt always
  feature in these patterns, it is consistently
  chosen when a single colour fabric is being used.
  From royal blue to sky blue, there are a wide
  range of blue hues to choose from across our
  fabric ranges. If you want something more neutral
  go for a two-tone blue/grey fabric like Mainline

Waiting Room and Office

• When it comes to office seating, beam seating and
  other general seating that we manufacture, blue
  has always been a popular colour choice and we
  dont expect this to change any time soon.
• Camiras Xtreme fabric range is a popular choice
  for office and reception seating and has a wealth
  of blue hues to choose from. Scuba, Curacao,
  Navassa and Ocean are a similar depth of colour
  to Classic Blue whilst Parasol, Bluebell,
  Bluefield and Anguilla are paler shades.

• For waiting rooms in healthcare establishments
  who require anti-microbial vinyl, Chieftains
  Just Colour range offers a selection of blues
  including Ocean, Likoni, Lupin, Blue Steel, Cool
  Blue, Dolphin and Sapphire Blue.
• 3 different shades of blue vinyl were used on
  our Bradford Beam seating in the hospital
  corridor waiting area pictured above right.
• This variation of blue shades creates a focal
  point of the seating and helps turn what is
  traditionally a dull space into a more vibrant
  and welcoming area.
