  • Avani is the first women pilot of India to fly
    the fighter jet.
  • She was born on 27th October 1993 in Rewa
    district of Madhya Pradesh.

  • Avani has completed her schooling from a small
    town Deoland in Shahdol district of Madhya
    Pradesh. She then pursued B.Tech from Banasthali
    University, Jaipur.
  • She was inspired by her brother who is a
    Lieutenant in the Indian Army.

  • Avani got the motivation by NASA astronaut late
    Kalpana Chawla and ex-president who is the
    missile man of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
  • She recalls the day when she was in class 3rd and
    astronaut Kalpana Chawla died in a crash of her
    space shuttle, Her mother was crying and Avani
    came to her and said Maa, don't cry I'll become
    the next Kalpana Chawla.

  • She qualified for the Indian Air Force exam and
    then completed her training from Hyderabad Air
    Force Academy.
  • She is from the first batch of three women
    officers who were commissioned as fighter pilots
    in IAF.

  • Avani was the first Indian woman to fly MiG-21
    fighting aircraft in her first solo flight which
    started from the IAF base in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
  • Before her solo flight, she had undertaken
    flights in twin-seater training jets, accompanied
    by Qualified Flying Instructors of IAF.

  • She is currently posted to No. 23 Squadron
    (Panthers) based in Suratgarh in Rajasthan.
  • She had shown her dedication and hard work during
    her pieces of training. She completed her basic
    flying training on Pilatus aircraft at Air Force
    Academy.

  • After completing her basic training, she has
    undertaken six months of training on Kiran
    trainer jets at Hakimpet.
  • And then, she went for a year-long training stint
    on Hawk advanced trainer jets at Bidar Air Base.

  • Avani had once said I want to fly the best
    fighter aircraft and learn more and more each
    day. And she is now handling one of the toughest
    aircraft in the world.
  • Avani has reached this milestone of flying a
    fighter aircraft solo in Russian-origin jet.

  • It shows that fighting aircraft doesnt
    discriminate between Men and Women. It also
    demonstrates IAFs enduring commitment to Nari
    Shakti.
  • Avani has proved that women are no less than men
    in any field. She is definitely a motivation for
    other Indian women who want to fly high.
