Title: Tips for Teaching Blind or Visually Impaired Students

1
Tips for Teaching Blind or Visually Impaired
Students
2
Introduction
  • When compared with common persons who have good
eyesight, its hard to really understand what a
school day will be like for a significantly
    visually impaired or blind student.
  • As the Blind Orphanage in Bangalore, Sri Rakum
school is raising funds in order to provide
quality education and a positive environment for
    visually challenged students.
  • There are some practical tips that you can
    implement for teaching blind students.

3
Always use names
  • Always use the first name of visually impaired
    students when addressing them.
  • This is the way to make them know that you are
talking to them and not someone else.
  • When passing across them instead of saying, Hi
have people announce their names as students may
not be able to recognize faces

4
Its okay to use words that reference sight
  • Dont neglect words like see and look.
  • Just like their insightful peers, these words
should be part of a visually impaired students
vocabulary to inept how they see, whether by
touching, or by bringing things close or in
normal conversation, like saying see you later!

5
Dont gesture, always verbalize
  • When writing on the board, always articulate what
you are writing so the student has access to that
    information and can follow accordingly.
  • Use position and directional concepts like
above/under, on top, behind/in front of,
    left/right, etc.
  • Try using descriptive sentences like, The ball
is next to the door instead of using The ball
    is over there.
  • Dont use words and phrases like here, there,
    over

6
Conclusion
Students have to understand the rules of the
road and always use the right-hand side path or
the right railing. If there are changes to the
classroom, allow the student to walk alone so
they know where things are. Are you willing to be
a part of a good deed? If yes, then join hands
with the well-known trustee in Bangalore. With
them, you can easily make your contribution
through Orphanage in Arkavathi Layout
