Fundamentals of Interior Design
  • Today, with the increase in numbers of people
with disposable income, the field of interior
designing is gaining momentum. People nowadays
not just focus on the construction of buildings,
but they emphasize on aesthetics of their
interiors. This is where interior designing comes
into play. Interior Designing is concerned with
designing the interiors of a building so as to
create a healthy and pleasing environment for the
    residents.

3
  • Furthermore, it also aims at functional
optimization of spaces. The interior design
projects are managed by interior designers who
are experts in converting visualization (ideas)
into reality. In the present scenario, there is a
huge demand for interior designers. So, one can
grab the opportunities by pursuing a course in
interior designing. To edge the competition and
enhance your employability, you should pursue the
course from top design colleges in India.

4
  • You should choose Avantika University as it is
the only design-centric university and it houses
the best design colleges in India. The university
    accustoms the candidates to fundamentals,
principles and concepts of interior designing to
    make them job-ready.
  • In general, there are some fundamentals of
interior design which helps to designers to
achieve harmony in their overall work. These
    fundamentals are

5
Balance
  • For effective interior designing, a mix of
asymmetrical, symmetrical and radical balance are
pivotal. Earlier, people preferred creating a
symmetrical balance wherein every side of the
room was a replica of the other side.
  • But nowadays, asymmetrical balance in interior
designing is preferred over the symmetrical one.
In this, dissimilar objects are used as they look
    more appealing.

6
  • Although this type of balance makes the interiors
lively and immensely beautiful, it is quite
difficult to execute it perfectly. Only
professionals can ace in creating asymmetrical
    balance.
  • Interior designs where different design elements
have their arrangement around a fixed central
point constitute radical symmetry. An example of
radical symmetry is a spiral staircase.

7
Rhythm
  • In interior designing, rhythm in visual designing
is quite important. It includes continuity,
recurrence and an organized movement of the
pattern. It involves four elements- repetition,
    transition, progression and contrast. These
enhance the sense of movement and bestow a
    pleasing effect to space.
  • Repetition involves usage of the same element
again and again. Elements such as color, texture
or line can be used multiple times in a single
    space to create repetition.

8
  • Transition creates a smooth flow in the interiors
which is quite pleasing to the eye.
  • The contrast in different elements generates an
appealing look in the interior. Different
contrasts such as black and white cushion cover
or different shapes create an interesting theme
    for the interior.

9
  • Fundamentals such as color or design can show
progression in an element. Usually, progression
relates to an increase or decrease in the
elements qualities to provide a perfect rhythm
    to space.

10
Details
  • To create an element in the most elegant way, its
detailing is required. It gives an enhanced look
to the room. Be it a cupboard handle, cushion
color or even the switches, detailed attention
    brings vivacity in the room.

11
Focal Point
  • Without any focal point in a room, its beauty and
creativity diminish. Hence, while designing a
room, elements like a fireplace, a led TV, etc
can be used as focal points, which attract the
attention of the viewers and adorn the appearance
    of the room.
  • However, there must be a balance among different
elements. A single portion must not grab the
entire attention of the viewer as other elements
would appear faded in that case.

12
